Frequently Asked Questions
Dates and times are selected by the coaches who work with the league and their own schedules for available field time. Practices will be at either Grandville Wells Elementary or Tom Johnson Memorial Park in Thorntown. Tee ball, baseball (8U, 10U and 12U, and 14U) and softball (8U, minors, and majors) will generally practice twice a week before the season starts and once or twice a week (depending on the division) once the season has started. The challenger league will not have practices.
Tee ball and challenger games will usually be on Saturday mornings beginning no earlier than 10am.
Baseball games for 8U, 10U, 12U, and 14U will be on either weekdays or weekends this year. 8U teams will only play other teams from the WYBS League. 10U and 12U will play other WYBS teams as well as teams from surrounding counties such as Montgomery County (Crawfordsville), Clinton County (Rossville and Frankfort), and Hamilton County (Sheridan).
Softball games for 8U, minors, and majors will be on either weekdays or weekends this year. 8U, minors, and majors will play other WYBS teams as well as teams from surrounding counties, such as Montgomery County (Crawfordsville), Clinton County (Rossville and Frankfort), and Hamilton County (Sheridan).
The game schedule usually isn’t available until closer to opening weekend.
The Challenger Division is for players ages 6 to 16 years old with physical or intellectual disabilities. The goal of this division is for these players to be part of a baseball team and learn the fundamentals of the game with heavy support from coaches and peer volunteers, called "buddies."
There will be two tee ball divisions, one for 3 and 4 year olds and one for 5 and 6 year olds.
The 3 and 4 year olds will bat off of a tee, have no outs in games, and batted balls will get thrown to the pitcher position. Practices will not last more than 45 minutes, and game days are still being determined.
The 5 and 6 year olds will start off batting off the tee but will transition to coach pitch during games. There will be no outs in games and batted balls will be thrown to first base. Games will be on Saturday mornings but will not start earlier than 10am.
-Tee ball registration is $40 for the 3 & 4 year old league and $60 for the 5 & 6 year old league. Both leagues include a t-shirt (with player’s last name on the back) and a hat.
-Challenger League registration $40 and includes a t-shirt (with player’s last name on the back) and a hat.

No. Last year our league was part of Little League, which only allowed leagues to have one fundraiser per year. This year we will do the laundry soap and trash bag fundraiser, but we also plan on doing additional fundraisers so the buyout will not be needed.
Yes. Most of the registration fees go toward uniforms, so the money we raise from our concession stands is vital to keeping registration fees from being raised. This season, however, teams will not be locked into finding volunteers for certain time slots. Instead, each team will have a certain number of slots they will need to fill anytime throughout the season.
The majority of the registration fee goes toward the cost of the uniforms. For baseball and softball leagues, each jersey has the player’s last name on the back, and the jerseys are sublimation jerseys, which means the designs, logos, and names will not fade or crack because they are directly infused into the fabric. Based on feedback from players and families, the board has decided to continue providing these jerseys. The league also provides pants (and socks and hair accessories for softball and hats for baseball) in order to provide a more uniform look for players. Tee ball and Challenger Leagues receive t-shirts with player’s name on the back as well as a hat. The rest of the registration fees, sponsorships, and concession stand funds pay for umpires, field maintenance (lime, weed killer, paint etc), equipment for each team, insurance for the league, tournament costs, facility improvements, electricity, and trophies/medals.
This is a completely volunteer run organization, so board members, coaches, concession stand workers, and other volunteers do not receive any funds.
In certain cases this is allowed. Please contact pres.wbll@gmail.com for more information.
Siblings (and other relatives) can be placed on the same team if requested, but requests for other reasons (example: friends wanting to be on the same team) cannot be guaranteed. Our priority is to divide the teams equally based on ability.
Player evaluations are for baseball 10U and 12U and softball majors and minors. Coaches watch players hit, throw, catch, and stop grounders during player evaluations. Based on this, coaches will draft players for their teams. The goal is to make equally skilled teams.

At the end of each season, the coaches of 8U, 10U, and 12U baseball and 8U, minors, and majors softball pick their top players (based on coach feedback, including player attitude). These players form three teams for baseball (one for each age division) and three teams for softball (one for each age division). Each of these teams will go to a tournament to play other teams from around the state. The baseball tournament will be in the beginning of July, and the softball tournament will be either in late June or early July. Before the tournament, the All-Star Teams will have several practices, which will be scheduled by the coach.
If a game is not able to be played due to weather, games are typically rescheduled if at all possible.
If it is below 40 degrees at the start of the game, the game will not be played and every effort will be made to reschedule it.
Games and practices cannot be played for 30 minutes after the last lightning strike within 5 miles. Games can be postponed at the discretion of the executive board.
